MAEA Teacher of the Year Award for SY 2022-2023

Thank you so much for offering to nominate an art teacher for the Montana Art Educator of the Year Award!
The Purpose from NAEA: To honor an outstanding NAEA member from each state association for service and contributions to art education that merit recognition and acclaim. Recipients of this award are selected by their state association and are honored at the state teacher convention in October as well as at the National Convention in March.
Eligibility: Active NAEA members who have made significant contributions to art education on the state level are eligible.
There are just a couple of requirements you and your nominee to complete:
- You send a nomination form and vita form to the teacher you are nominating. Have them fill them out and return them to the email address maeamtpresident@gmail.com by September 19th, 2022.
- Have them include/send a digital photo of themselves to the maeamtpresident@gmail.com.
- Have them get two colleagues/administrators to write letters of support. Have those sent to maeamtpresident@gmail.com, too, no later than the September 19th, 2022.
- Lastly, send your letter of nomination to maeamtpresident@gmail.com by September 19th, 2022.

State Art Educator Awards
To honor an outstanding NAEA member from each State/Province Association for service and contributions to art education that merit recognition and acclaim. Recipients of this award are selected by their State Association.
Eligibility: Active NAEA members who have made significant contributions to art education on the state level.
Submission Requirements: Contact your State Association for further requirements and nomination deadlines. State Association Presidents/Awards Chairs submit to NAEA National Office: The official NAEA form communicating who has been selected from your State to receive this award. State Presidents receive this form in June. Deadline for the submission of this information to the NAEA National Office is October 1.
Retired Art Educator Award
To recognize continuous outstanding service to art education by an individual before and after retirement.
Eligibility: NAEA/RAEA members who have been retired at least 3 years and have brought distinction to the field of art education by exceptional and continuous records of achievement through teaching, professional leadership, and/or community service before and after retirement.
Submit to NAEA National Office: A Nomination Form noting the date of retirement, Standardized Vita Form with all service and achievements occurring after retirement underlined, cover letter of nomination, two letters supporting nomination (with at least one from a retired art educator), and a photograph or digital photograph on disk.

Higher Education Student Achievement Award
To recognize excellence in student involvement at the college university level.
Eligibility: Student Members of NAEA who are enrolled as college/university students at the time the award is presented at the NAEA National Convention.
Submit to NAEA National Office:
A letter of nomination listing the following:
If a student self-nominates, also include a letter of recommendation from a faculty member at the school or community base where they work or volunteer. Include a typed single-page resume listing the student’s artistic and extracurricular achievements in both school and community, a maximum two-page typed “Philosophy of Teaching Art” statement, and six sets of five slides or six disks containing five digital images each representing the nominee’s artwork and/or their students’ artwork. All work must be original and not copied from other sources. Please list titles of artwork, media used, and distinguish between work created by nominees or by their students.
Eligibility: Student Members of NAEA who are enrolled as college/university students at the time the award is presented at the NAEA National Convention.

Rising Stars Secondary Recognition Program
To promote art education as a career by recognizing 50 talented, active NAHS Members.
Recognition as a “Rising Star” will be given at the NAEA National Convention* along with a four-year complimentary NAEA student membership (with proof of college enrollment as an art education major); and a one-year, first year professional membership (with proof of employment).
Eligibility: Junior/rising senior high school NAHS students seriously interested in becoming art educators.
Submit to NAEA National Office: A cover sheet containing the following:
Also include three letters of recommendation (one by an art educator, two from teachers and/or administrators); a student personal statement regarding art education goals; a disk containing five digital samples of the nominee’s artwork; and a list denoting artwork titles and media used. All work must be original and not copied from other sources.
*Recipients of this award are not required to attend the Convention.
