YOUTH ART MONTH: Exhibitions, Opportunities and Excitement Across Our State
2023 Youth Art Month: Your Art, Your Voice
What is Youth Art Month?
In 1962 March was designated nationally as Youth Art Month (YAM). The Council for Art Education (CFAE) , a non-profit organization, administers Youth Art Month in the United States and abroad. Youth Art Month was designed to encourage support for quality school art programs, and promotes art material safety. The Council for Art Education (CFAE) administers the program at the national level with state level chairs throughout the nation. The 2022 Montana state chair is Victor Daniel of Helena. The program provides a medium for recognizing skills developed through visual arts experiences unlike any other curriculum subjects, including:
- Problem solving
- Creativity
- Observation
- Communication
How Do I Get Involved in Youth Art Month in My Community?
Art shows, special exhibits, fundraisers, and school and community activities take place annually, traditionally during March, to celebrate visual art education for grades K – 12.Anyone can start an observance. In most states and local areas, art educators organize observances and seek the support and help of others in their schools and community, including business people, other art teachers, parents, librarians, youth organization leaders, and others who have a genuine concern for quality art programs and who are willing to work with others in the school system or community.

- Each teacher can send two to three 2-D pieces, pending scale & response
- Works must be mounted/matted and hang-able (hot glue and string works great). Please use foam core or cardboard backing on larger pieces
- We use Command strips on marble to hang, so works can’t be too heavy
- NO FRAMES unless YOU are delivering locally and brining a full size easel
- 3-D works are encouraged, number is not as limited but please think of media when shipping
