Dolly Carroll, in her childlike manner, named each of her ranch animals, and she knew the birthdays of most of the residents of Twin Bridges. Her passion in life, though, beside her husband, Alan, was to be an artist and to share this love with children. After completing her art teaching degree from the University of Montana Western, Dolly convinced the Twin Bridges Public School to begin a formal art program at the elementary level. During her six-year tenure, Dolly was awarded Art Teacher of the Year and also became quite active with the Southwest Montana Arts Council. In 1994, Dolly left Twin Bridges School to pursue a successful painting career continuing to inspire hundreds of children of all ages. Diane "Dolly" Carroll succumbed on a sunny summer day of 2002 at the youthful age of 55 to a brain embolism. Her colorful art as well as her sweet memory will continue to delight and amaze all who knew Dolly or see her paintings.
